1. Purpose and Policy

Seascape Logistics (Pvt) Limited takes health and safety issues seriously and is committed to protecting the wellbeing of its staff, clients, contractors, and all those affected by its business activities or visiting its premises.

This Policy clarifies responsibilities for health and safety matters and outlines the standards expected of everyone

Note: This Policy is a statement of intent and does not form part of any employment contract. It may be amended at the Employer’s discretion and will be reviewed regularly to ensure effectiveness.

2. Responsibility for Workplace Health and Safety

Creating a safe and healthy workplace is a shared responsibility between the Employer and all staff. This Policy applies to:

  • • Employees of all levels
  • • Directors and officers
  • • Consultants and contractors
  • • Casual or agency staff
  • • Trainees, homeworkers, fixed-term staff and volunteers

3. Employer Responsibilities

The Employer is responsible for:

  • • Safeguarding the health and safety of staff, visitors, and those affected by business activities.
  • • Identifying risks and implementing measures to manage or eliminate them.
  • • Providing safe entry, exit, and working environments, including during emergencies.
  • • Maintaining safe equipment, systems, and protective clothing where necessary.
  • • Ensuring safe arrangements for the use, handling, storage, and transport of materials.
  • • Delivering adequate information, instruction, training, and supervision to enable safe working practices.
  • • Ensuring health and safety representatives receive appropriate training.
  • • Providing induction and role-specific safety training, including:
    • ★ Manual handling
    • ★ Working at height
    • ★ Use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
    • ★ Driving safety
  • • Promoting effective communication and consultation on health and safety matters.
  • • Issuing guidance during epidemic or pandemic alerts to minimize infection risks.
  • • Monitoring and reviewing health and safety management regularly.
  • • Supporting staff mental health by:
    • ★ Implementing workplace modifications
    • ★ Reducing stress through improved working conditions
    • ★ Allowing remote work where appropriate
    • ★ Providing access to professional mental health support

Overall responsibility lies with the Operations Committee. The Safety Team has been appointed as the Health and Safety Officer with day-to-day responsibility. Concerns should be directed to the Health and Safety Officer.

4. Responsibilities of All Staff

General Responsibilities

All staff must:

  • • Take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others.
  • • Co-operate with the Employer and Health and Safety Officer to ensure compliance.
  • • Follow all health and safety instructions, including safe use of equipment.
  • • Maintain a tidy, hazard-free workplace
  • • Report concerns, risks, or hazards promptly.
  • • Co-operate in investigations of incidents or near.

Equipment Responsibilities

  • • Use equipment only as instructed and in line with training.
  • • Report faults, damage, or concerns immediately.
  • • Never interfere with safety equipment.
  • • Attempt repairs only if trained and authorized.

Accidents and First Aid

  • • Report all accidents, however minor, to the Health and Safety Officer for recording in the Accident Book.
  • • Familiarize themselves with first aid facilities and trained first aiders (details displayed on site notice boards).
  • • In case of an accident, dial +94 70 799 5530 and request the duty first aider, providing name, location, and details.
  • • Co-operate with investigations.
  • • The Health and Safety Officer is responsible for accident records and reporting under RIDDOR (2013), where required.

Emergency Evacuation and Fire

  • • Familiarize themselves with fire instructions displayed on notice boards.
  • • Know the location of fire extinguishers, exits, and alternative escape routes.
  • • Follow fire warden instructions during alarms or drills.
  • • Participate seriously in fire drills (held at least annually).
  • • Ensure exits and signage remain unobstructed.
  • • Notify the Health and Safety Officer of any condition that may hinder evacuation (e.g., impaired mobility).
  • • Trigger the nearest alarm and notify reception if possible.
  • • Attempt to tackle the fire only if trained and confident.

On hearing the fire alarm:

  • • Remain calm and evacuate immediately without running.
  • • Do not collect personal belongings.
  • • Avoid lifts.
  • • Stay outside until authorized to re-enter.

The Health and Safety Officer ensure fire risk assessments, equipment checks, and compliance with fire safety standards.

5. Risk Assessments and Manual Handling

  • • Risk assessments will be conducted to identify hazards and minimize risks.
  • • Managers must ensure recommendations are implemented.
  • • PPE will be provided where risks cannot be otherwise controlled.
  • • Manual handling guidance and training will be provided where necessary, with efforts made to minimize such tasks.

6. Non-Compliance

Failure to comply with this Policy or health and safety rules will be treated as a serious disciplinary matter and may result in action up to and including dismissal, in line with the Employer’s Disciplinary Policy.
